3rd Snow alert — March 5, 2013, class unit 09 — Greetings! It seems likely that the university will cancel our class this evening. Remember to keep up to date with the readings, and please also see the "supplements" link above and look at the new material there.

It has become increasingly obvious that I need to alert you to the ways Modernism is different from preceding periods, and today especially I wanted to draw your attention to particular ways of treating the figure. So I have uploaded some material in the secret history link on the left. When there, click on the     button (top right) to launch it, then minimise all other application windows (you do not have to close them). Find the link on Paradigm Structures and check out the spiritualised figure for Classicism, Sensualism, and Quietism (the dominant paradigm for Modernism). When you've seen that material, take a look at the works Fineberg shows on p 153–178 - find three examples of the figure for Quietism and list for yourself its signals and possible interpretation within the actual work.
